Aspen Mirror Lake is always a popular place during summer months, but when the day is “Free Fishing Day,” the small lake is a sure bet. Free Fishing Day is an annual event sponsored by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Many waters within the Upper Sevier River Watershed are stocked with extra catchable rainbow trout during the event to accommodate anglers. “This is our favorite place to fish,” said Dave Macauley. He and his wife Connie travel from Henderson, Nevada to enjoy the opportunities in this portion of the watershed.

Aspen Mirror’s close proximity to Duck Creek Village, also makes it a popular place for scenic mountain walks and bird watching. “Look, there is a grosbeak,” exclaimed Jay Rodriquez to his wife Cheryl, both from Las Vegas, Nevada. Donning binoculars and walking shoes, the Rodriquez’ and several friends continued their exploration around the picturesque lake.

At day’s close, anglers did not leave unrewarded. Upwards of 10 groups could be found at any time around the lake, successfully catching small rainbows and enjoying a small piece of Mother Nature!
