In the 1880s the discovery of the mineral Antimony (stibnite) transformed this peaceful canyon and the surrounding area into a boom town, complete with saloons and hotels. Navajo Indians first discovered the alloy and used it in the making of arrowheads and bullets. Later, the mineral was used as an alloy to strengthen other metals. Antimony Creek, which flows through the canyon, provides water for many of the farms in the valley below and is a popular spot for wildlife viewing, fishing and dispersed camping. |
