From 5,000 B.C. to 700 A.D., Archaic and Freemont Indians roamed this portion of the watershed. Much later, Spanish explorers and traders traversed the open country, and in the 1870’s settlers used this end of the valley to raise livestock, and grain. Today, the watershed continues to meet irrigation needs of local ranchers and farmers.
