Lion Rock, named by early settlers for its resemblance to a sleeping lion, is located in the northernmost portion of the watershed. During spring and early summer the river is afloat with rafters, and numerous fly fishermen can be found along the banks (consult the fishing proclamation for special regulations). Fremont and later Piute Indians once roamed Kingston Canyon and artifacts left behind give archaeologists glimpses into these prehistoric cultures.
