At the top of Asay Creek watershed is Midway Valley, a large meadow adjacent to Highway 14. During the summer and fall, deer and elk can be seen feeding in the meadow in the early morning and late evening hours. You may also see a band of sheep in the meadow late in the summer tended by a herder on horseback. During the winter, snow covers the meadow and the area becomes a popular spot for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
The forest surrounding the meadow is dominated by Englemann spruce and aspen. Most of the larger spruce trees have been infested by spruce beetles and will be dead in a few years.
