In 1872 the town of Aaron, also known as ‘Asay’, was settled along the Sevier River near the mouth of Asay Creek. However, flooding, among other problems, forced settlers to move, and in 1934 they established the small community of Hatch, just west of Mammoth Creek Fish Hatchery. Most of the area is still under private ownership. Once plagued by overgrazing and high recreational use, water users have banded together to aid in stream restoration efforts along Asay Creek and the Upper Sevier River.
