From the mid-1800s to the early 1950s, the Smith Canyon sawmill provided lumber for the town of Panguitch, Utah, and to build mine shafts in Pioche and Panaca, Nevada. Today, the canyon supports a variety of wildlife, including black bear, cougar, deer and snakes, as well as a variety of vegetation types.
