From the mid-1800’s to the early 1950’s, the Smith Canyon sawmill provided lumber for the town of Panguitch, Utah, and to build mine shafts in Pioche and Panaca, Nevada. Today, the canyon supports a variety of wildlife, including black bear, cougar, deer and snakes, as well as a variety of vegetation types.
