Blue Fly creek, named in the 1870’s when blue bottle flies were said to be common in the area, is surrounded by beautiful wet meadows and numerous perennial springs. These springs and seeps are vital to animal and plant biota in the area, and some of the unique plants housed near the springs, are found nowhere else! However, the colorful pink limestone around Blue Fly Creek is highly corrosive and heavy livestock use has caused serious damage to the stream and wetlands. Livestock owners and resource managers have worked closely together to restore historic flood plains and protect newly planted willows and grasses.
