A variety of plants and animal communities depend on meadow areas for habitat. In fact, the majority of large predators, like goshawks, eagles, coyotes and fox, spend some amount of time foraging in meadow areas. In addition, big game depend on the "edge" created between meadow and forest. However, past fire suppression effort has decreased the size of some meadows, while intensive grazing has degraded others. Maintaining and improving these sensitive areas will help increase numbers and distribution of wildlife species, reduce the potential listing of species under the Endangered Species Act, and will contribute towards the removal of some species from threatened and endangered status, in conjunction with the Upper Sevier River Community Watershed Project Business Plan. |
