At higher elevations in the watershed grow Earths oldest inhabitants Bristlecone pines. Found only in the Great Basin states, many of these trees are thousands of years old! Contrast that to a fruit fly that has a life span of less than a week! The view of this rugged country is spectacular, but it is hard to imagine how these ancient trees have adapted to the cool, dry, windswept peaks. Respect and enjoy these ancient elders. |
