Prior to the Mormon pioneers that settled this area in 1864, Piute Indians roamed the land. Evidence of these peaceful prehistoric inhabitants is still found in the area around Kingston Canyon. For the Mormons that settled in the valley, raising potatoes and livestock proved fruitful, thanks to plentiful water from the Sevier River. Today, much remains the same. Farms and ranches still dot the area, carrying on the traditional roles of their grandfathers. |
