Duck Creek Archaeology Camp

Digging in the dirt isn’t just for toddlers anymore. As a matter of fact, those shovel wielding youth are exactly what U.S. Forest Service Archaeologist Marian (Omar) Jacklin needs to help her unearth a Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) camp. CCC camps, like this one located near Duck Creek, Utah, played an important part in shaping the future of the watershed, and are part of the Dixie’s rich history.

Volunteer Sierra club members surveyed, mapped and constructed some preliminary digs, and then Cross Hollow Middle students began unearthing this exciting find.
