Forest recreation use and residential populations in private, forested subdivisions have grown dramatically over the last several years, increasing the risk that a human caused fire may occur. In addition, fuel build-up from fire suppression and spruce-beetle killed trees increases the likelihood of a catastrophic natural wildfire. A high intensity fire would cause significant damage to these properties as well as natural resources in the surrounding area. Numerous private subdivisions occur throughout the watershed that would benefit from a fuels reduction program. |
