According to current U.S. Forest Service guidelines, road densities in a given area should not exceed 2 miles per square mile of wildlife habitat. However, current road densities in the Duck/Swains Access Management Area exceed 4.9 miles per square mile of wildlife habitat! Reducing illegal parallel roads and streamlining multiple roads to the same destination, while still maintaining proper ATV trails, will increase the recreational experience as well as reduce habitat fragmentation.
