Historically tall forbs (vast arrays of colorful flowers surrounded by a combination of trees, shrubs and grasses) were found at higher elevations in Idaho, Colorado and Utah. Today, many ‘tall forb types’ have been replaced by lower statured, dry-tolerant plants. Southern Utah University, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Intermountain Research, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and livestock permittees who graze sheep in this area, have partnered together to study tall forb restoration alternatives. Project goals are to improve soil productivity, improve watershed conditions, increase forage production, increase wildlflower viewing opportunities, improve wildlife habitat and increase diversity of vegetation.
