The road that runs through Bear Valley was once used as a shortcut from Panguitch to Parowan; however alternate, quicker routes now exist. The Bear Valley watershed has been grazed since pioneers first settled the area in the late 1800's, and the road, which runs right next to the stream channel is highly erosive. Recent efforts to improve the watershed have resulted in a dramatic improvement in both riparian habitat and the surrounding rangeland.
