Whitetop, a common noxious weed on cultivated lands, along roadsides, in pastures, rangelands, and other non-crop areas, is an aggressive competitor with desirable forage grasses. This non-native plant not only competes with desirable plants for water, nutrients and sunlight, but also, may significantly alter a native ecosystem, to the point that agriculture, human and wildlife navigation, fish and wildlife habitat and public health may all be threatened. The 34-acre Sandy Creek Whitetop removal will discourage the movement of this noxious weed into other portions of the watershed.
