Jones Corral Access Management

As ATV riding becomes increasingly more popular, the importance of using existing trails, and avoiding meadows, riparian areas and trail blazing, is of utmost importance. Too many roads and trails in an area lead to increased erosion, habitat fragmentation and interfere with wildlife migration patterns.

To comply with Forest Plan recommendations for road densities, numerous trails were closed in the Jones Corral area. A U.S. Forest Service Road crew “ripped” the soil and re-planted vegetation to speed recovery. It is important to remember that these roads were never numbered, forest service system roads, but were off-trail, and in most cases already illegal travel corridors.

ATV users, as well as other recreationists, are encouraged to comply with road closure projects throughout the watershed to not only maintain habitat but also to enhance the outdoor experience for others.
