High phosphorous levels and sediment loads in this section of the Upper Sevier River, greatly reduce fish viability. Excessive phosphorus causes an increase in algae growth, thereby decreasing the dissolved oxygen available for cold water fish species, while high levels of sediment from erosion impairs fish habitat and their ability to spawn.
Resource personnel and landowners work together to identify the sources and causes of the pollution and to implement measures to achieve and maintain water quality. Such measures will ensure that the Upper Sevier River continues to be utilized for a variety of purposes.
