Looking out over Meadow Lake and the surrounding wetlands, this doesnt seem a likely place for a wildland fire; however, the recent spruce beetle epidemic on Cedar Mountain has left those lands adjacent to wildland homes primed for a catastrophic wildfire.
To help reduce the potential for wildland fire, thinning projects to remove dead and dying spruce, are in process in the Meadow Lakes area. In addition, U.S. Forest Service personnel have worked with homeowners to create natural fuel breaks and defensible space around subdivisions as well as individual homes.
