| Some trees, infected with only a small amount of mistletoe can be saved simply by snapping off the infected portion. If not removed, the mistletoe will infect those trees around it, and eventually kill its' host. |

Mistletoe is an extremely bad parasite, said Steve Spackman, contractor. Its like a bad cold that nobody wants. In the Rock Canyon area, many of the trees have been infected by the quick spread of mistletoe. |

The parasite spreads as mistletoe spores fill up with water and explode, landing on other trees within a 2-foot radius. Infected trees are either cut down or girded (cutting around the tree, through the bark layer, to stop the flow of nutrients). |
