Red Canyon Visitor Center
An exciting new visitor center at Red Canyon is scheduled for construction, Fall 2002. The center will offer exhibits and interpretive talks on the natural and cultural resources of the area, as well as information on nearby recreational opportunities.

The unique soils in the Red Canyon area provide habitat for seven plant species that are found together nowhere else in the world! To preserve these rare species, the U.S. Forest Service designated the Red Canyon Botanical Area, about 2 miles southeast of the visitor center. While exploring one of the nature trails in this area, watch for golden eagles and peregrine falcons, but tread lightly and treat this fragile ecology with the utmost care!

Also of interest near the Red Canyon Visitor Center is the historical Podunk Guard Station. The station, relocated from its original site, was used from 1928-1933 as a resting spot for weary forest rangers and their livestock.
