Deep Creek 1
Flood Adds to Impact
Some riparian areas, already fragile following four years of drought, were especially hard hit by the Sanford fire. However, of even greater significance, torrential rain and hail following the fire created substantial flooding and stream erosion to these already degraded areas. Debris and sediment was eventually carried downstream and into the Sevier River. U.S. Forest Service Hydrologists like Chris Butler will play a crucial role in monitoring these events and documenting riparian recovery.
