Rabbitbrush, although only a fair to medium forage plant for wildlife and domestic livestock, is an important soil stabilizer within a watershed. In areas where pinyon/juniper encroachment is a problem, re-establishment of other vegetation types, including rabbitbrush, is a desired condition. Although rabbitbrush was not used for soil rehabilitation within the Sanford, its presence throughout much of the west, and especially near riparian and pinyon/juniper encroached areas, serves a useful role in reducing erosion.

Although rabbitbrush is not always the vegetation of choice, it is important as a soil stabilizer and can improve range conditions.
