| West Fork Hunt Creek Aspen Before Burn
Nothing could be more pleasing to the senses than a babbling stream, surrounded by grassy meadows, fragrant pine and decadent aspen! This photo point, taken along West Fork Hunt Creek, Summer 2001, was visited exactly for that reason - some of the finest qualities of the watershed, coming together all in one place. However, much can change in an instant. The following summer, the Sanford Fire swept through this area, leaving it devoid of vegetation and scenic value.
One event. So much damage. Granted, we cannot always determine the course of Mother Nature, but we can use such an event to take a moment to reflect on those things that we really value. Is this a fast-forward version (from 2001 to 2002) of what can happen to an area within a watershed, left unchecked and used without thought for the future? Or is this the opposite - a quick rewind (from 2002 to 2001) of a watershed's potential?
