Noxious weeds and invasive plant species are plants of foreign origin that can directly or indirectly injure agriculture, navigation, fish or wildlife, or public health. Aggressive and difficult to control, these invasive species crowd out more desirable and nutritious forage plants, cause soil erosion, and can poison livestock and wildlife species. Noxious weeds can also reduce habitat for native and endangered species, degrade riparian areas, create fire hazards, and interfere with recreational activities. Aquatic invasive plants clog lakes and waterways, adversely affecting fisheries, public water supplies, and irrigation.
